Andrew Institute, the installer training organization of CommScope’s Andrew Solutions, is helping operators and installers defend against disruptive interference in wireless networks by offering a new passive intermodulation (PIM) training course.
The new Andrew Institute® class addresses the wireless industry’s increased concerns about PIM’s impact on network performance. It will be conducted using PIM test-ready Andrew® base station antennas, cables, tower mounted amplifiers and other connectivity solutions plus portable PIM analyzers supplied by Summitek Instruments, a Smiths Interconnect business and a world leader in PIM test equipment.
“With data demands and bandwidth usage skyrocketing, operators are addressing anything and everything that can cause a decrease in capacity in their networks,” said Stan Catey, senior vice president and general manager, Cable Products, Andrew. “For over 15 years, the Andrew Institute has brought top-quality, specialized training to installers and engineers to help them optimize system performance. Adding PIM training to the Andrew Institute curriculum is a logical evolution of our class offerings.”
Andrew Institute’s new training course teaches participants not only proper testing techniques but also best construction practices to ensure low PIM results. As a leading RF equipment manufacturer, Andrew has thorough knowledge of the causes of PIM and is pleased to offer this training to help network operators achieve maximum performance. Summitek’s PIM test equipment enables network operators to find and eliminate the non-linear junctions at a cell site that cause PIM.“We are pleased that Andrew Institute has selected Summitek Instruments’ PIM test equipment for this new training program,” said Tom Bell, vice president of business development, Summitek Instruments. “The class teaches valuable skills that installers and operators alike can use to improve system performance.” The PIM training class is being offered now to customers in the US. The Andrew Institute also offers training courses for the installation of remote electrical tilt antennas (RET), microwave systems (TMW) and cable connectors, and for testing voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR).
