OMA Reports 2.7% Increase In September 2010 Passenger Traffic

MONTERREY, Mexico, Oct. 7, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 2.7% in September 2010, as compared to September 2009. Domestic traffic increased 1.5%, and international traffic rose 10.8%.

Of total traffic, 96.6% was commercial aviation, and 3.4% was general aviation.

Total Passengers*
  Sep-09 Sep-10 Change % Jan-Sep 2009 Jan-Sep 2010 Change %
Domestic 709,363 720,218 1.5 7,350,510 7,316,493 (0.5)
International 102,962 114,033 10.8 1,374,317 1,460,037 6.2
OMA Total 812,325 834,251 2.7 8,724,827 8,776,530 0.6
* Terminal passengers: includes passengers on the three types of aviation (commercial, charter, and general aviation), and excludes passengers in transit.

Domestic traffic recorded noteworthy increases at the Monterrey, Chihuahua, and Ciudad Juárez airports. In Monterrey, traffic increased principally on the routes to Cancún and Mexico City. In Chihuahua, traffic grew principally on the routes to Mexico City and Guadalajara. In Ciudad Juárez, traffic benefitted from growth on the Guadalajara route and general aviation. Domestic traffic decreased most in the airports of Torreón, Mazatlán, Acapulco, and Reynosa, where the principal factor was the suspension of operations by the Grupo Mexicana airlines since August 28, 2010.

International traffic increased most significantly at the Monterrey and San Luis Potosí airports. Monterrey benefitted from increases in traffic to Houston, Atlanta, and Dallas. San Luis Potosí benefitted from an increase in passenger traffic to Dallas. International traffic decreased most in Zacatecas, where the suspension of operations of Mexicana de Aviación principally affected the route to Chicago.

The total number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in the month decreased 4.6% as compared to the prior year period. Domestic flights decreased 7.5%, and international flights rose 18.9%.
