NEW YORK, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company held its first-ever summit last week that explored diversity and inclusion best practices at Fortune 500 companies. Hosted by AXA Equitable's Diversity Office and its Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council, the daylong program focused on how organizations can move beyond diversity to a culture of inclusion.
More than 85 people participated in the September 20, 2010, summit held at the company's midtown Manhattan headquarters. The event brought together leaders from academia and from across nine industries, including accounting, engineering, financial services, food services, insurance, media, publishing, pharmaceutical and retail.
"Diversity is certainly an important factor in every aspect of business today, and we were proud to host our first summit on the topic," said Jennifer Blevins, executive vice president and chief human resources officer for AXA Equitable. "But if organizations are truly going to embrace difference, then we must weave inclusion into the fabric of our cultures. Doing so enables us to empower our respective employees and achieve our business goals."
Attendees joined in a full day of dialogue, sharing insights on transforming diversity and inclusion from corporate ideals into core business principles. Topics covered included emerging diversity models, the role and influence of corporate councils, and moving beyond best practices."We were grateful to have so many leaders from such varied industries participate in our summit," said Tracey Gray-Walker, senior vice president and chief diversity officer for AXA Equitable. "After a full day of candid discussion, our hope is that everyone left the program even more inspired to continue their own journeys toward a culture of inclusiveness."
