PNC's Rohr Setting up for Succession?
Demchak joined PNC in 2002 in the dual role as vice chairman and its chief financial officer. He was named head of Corporate & Institutional Banking in 2005 and promoted to senior vice chairman in 2009. Before joining PNC, he served as the global head of Structured Finance and Credit Portfolio for JPMorgan Chase.
PNC's actions seem to mirror that of its larger competitor, JPMorgan Chase. Earlier this year, speculation abounded that Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon was getting ready to move on from the financial services titan. There was even some rumor-mongering surrounding the possibility of Dimon becoming the next Treasury Secretary since he has been so outspoken about financial reform, but in recent months that speculation has quieted. Most recently in June, three top executives at JPMorgan Chase underwent a management shuffle, with veteran Heidi Miller emerging as a possible lead candidate to replace Dimon. Miller was named to a new role at the bank as president of JPMorgan's international banking franchise - a key area of growth that Dimon as the U.S. financial reform measures place limits on the banking titan. --Written by Laurie Kulikowski in New York.
