Yet another popular SUV in August was the Toyota(TM) 4Runner. Toyota sold 3,833 of them in August, up from 1,004 in the same month a year earlier.

The 2010 4Runner began to arrive in dealers in late October of 2009, so many of the August 2009 sales represented selloffs of the 2009 models, said Toyota spokeswoman Zoe Ziegler.

The 2011 models will begin to arrive shortly. The 2011 model starts at $29,525. It represents the fifth generation of a vehicle that was introduced in 1984 as a slight variation on a Toyota pickup.
