NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- BP(BP) said Wednesday it agreed to sell its interests in ethylene and polyethylene production in Malaysia for $363 million.

The buyer is Petronas, Malaysia's national oil company.

BP holds a 15% interest in Ethylene Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and a 60% interest in Polyethylene Malaysia Sdn Bhd, both of which are operated by Petronas.

BP said the sale, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2010, doesn't affect its other businesses in Malaysia.

The sale is part of BP's efforts to raise cash to pay for costs related to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
