Dow Turns in Worst August Since 2001
The $2.15 billion sale of AIG's(AIG) life insurance business in Taiwan hit a snag after the deal was rejected by regulators in the country. Shares of AIG traded 14 cents lower at $33.86.
Lions Gate Entertainment(LGF) was back in the headlines after Carl Icahn upped his bid for the firm at $7.50 per share. Lions Gate's stock was rose 9.6% to $7.11. In commodity markets, crude oil for October delivery plunged $2.78 to settle at $71.92 a barrel, and the December gold contract improved $11.10 to settle at $1,250.30 an ounce.
The benchmark 10-year Treasury note was up by 16/32, diluting the yield to 2.475%.
