Internet Phone Service, Kindle: Hot Trends

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- "Internet phone service" is a hot search topic following today's debut of Google Voice. The new application allows users to receive or place phone calls on their Gmail account. Gmail users opened their Internet browsers today to find the new box next to their Google Chat feature.

Google (GOOG) hopes this new feature will give existing services such as Skype and VocalTec (CALL) a run for their money, and could possibly dampen Skype's upcoming debut on Wall Street.

Calls made to the US and Canada on Google Voice are free while international calls require calling credit.

"Amazon Kindle" is a trending search as the latest model began to ship to customers today, two days earlier than expected.

Amazon (AMZN) introduced its new and improved e-reader in July for $189. The device is equipped with Wi-Fi and a 3G Internet connection, and if you order one today you shouldn't expect to receive it until mid-September.

Amazon hasn't released its exact sales figures for the Kindle, however it has confirmed that the device is its bestselling product.
