AmeriQuest Transportation Services Selects EVault From I365, A Seagate Company, For Data Backup And Disaster Recovery Protection

i365, Inc., a Seagate Company (NASDAQ:STX), today announced that AmeriQuest Transportation Services, a leading provider of truck fleet management services, has implemented i365’s EVault Backup and Recovery Software solution to protect its business critical data in case of disaster. AmeriQuest worked with long-time i365 partner Contour Data Solutions, a premier provider of Strategic IT Solutions and Data Management, to replace its outdated tape-based backup and recovery system. The New Jersey-based company selected EVault Software for its cost effectiveness and straightforward implementation process

To manage the complexity of its operations, AmeriQuest maintains servers and databases with core data that includes inventories, transactions and customer data. The company sought to replace its legacy tape-based data backup and recovery systems because they were slow, costly, and prone to mechanical failures. They enlisted the help of Contour Data Solutions to align their business needs with the right technology. After working closely with AmeriQuest, Contour Data recommended EVault Software as a data protection solution that would preserve the company’s critical data and meet their recovery objectives for data availability.

“We manage a variety of services for more than 700,000 vehicles nationwide, and safeguarding our customers’ data is an important part of that,” said Mike Rowbotham, IT Manager at AmeriQuest. “We previously used tape backup systems and they just weren’t cutting it. They were slow and prone to failure, and most of all, they were difficult to use when we needed to recover data. We chose EVault Software because we can use it with any hardware and because its deduplication capabilities minimize bandwidth usage. Also, its quick implementation time got us up and running within one day. EVault Software now does the backup and recovery heavy lifting.”

Using i365’s EVault Software, AmeriQuest, deployed four vaults across its four locations that serve as two sets of on-site and off-site repositories for redundancy and disaster recovery. Each location backs up its servers both locally and to the secondary location for disaster recovery protection. With EVault Software, AmeriQuest’s backups take 80-percent less time than they did with the previous solution, giving the company the ability to easily fit backups within its 9 PM to 6 AM backup window. Additionally, it now takes 20 minutes to back up a day’s worth of data, whereas previously it would have taken an entire day.

According to an independent Forrester Research, Inc. report, "Consolidated Backup Strategies For Remote Sites," published October 30, 2009, “Remote sites represent operational, financial, and business risk. A poor or nonexistent backup strategy affects revenue and employee productivity, and transporting unencrypted tapes off site is a legal and public relations nightmare just waiting to happen. Sooner or later, someone in the office will lose track of several backup tapes, and someone will find out about it. For this reason, most companies are opting to centralize remote site backup."
