Citigroup, MBIA, Apple Among Big Movers
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:
NYSE Citigroup Inc., up 19 cents at $4.30 The bank will sell its private equity units and the management of certain funds as it reduces its noncore divisions and riskier assets. MBIA Inc., up 74 cents at $7.17 A top fund manager, Bruce Berkowitz, said he owned an 11 percent stake in the bond insurer, or 22.7 million shares. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd., up $2.02 at $16.45 The company stepped up its battle with major shareholder Rio Tinto PLC with plans to kill a measure that limits it from adding investors. NASDAQ Brooks Automation Inc., up $1.01 at $9.03 The chip equipment maker expects fiscal third and fourth-quarter results to surpass Wall Street's expectations. ADC Telecommunications Inc., up $3.67 at $12.52 Tyco Electronics Ltd. plans to acquire the networking equipment maker for $12.75 a share, a hefty premium over Monday's closing price. VIVUS Inc., up $1.79 at $12.44 The FDA said the company's experimental drug helped people lose weight, bringing it closer to approval. Apple Inc., down $5.49 at $251.80 Consumer Reports magazine did not recommend the cmopany's latest iPhone because of antenna reception problems. Amedisys Inc., down $8.45 at $26.57 An analyst downgraded the home health care provider because of a weak outlook and government scrutiny of its Medicare billing practices.TheStreet Premium Services
