STUART, Fla., July 9, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ecosphere Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:ESPH), a diversified water engineering and environmental services company announces that the first phase of its recently announced contract with Mid-Gulf Recovery Services, LLC calls for Ecosphere to supply its patented mobile Ozonix units to clean marine industrial wastewater throughout the Gulf region for BP. This is the first application of the Ozonix technology outside of the energy business and is part of Ecosphere's plan to deploy the Ozonix technology in many industries to clean wastewater without harmful chemicals in an environmentally friendly way. Ecosphere's Ozonix technology is presently being tested in connection with cleaning oil in the Gulf.
Under the present contract, two initial Ecosphere Ozonix mobile water treatment units will be placed on housing barges to clean grey and black wastewater generated by response personnel servicing the BP clean up efforts in the Gulf states. The first unit is in the gulf now and in the process of being deployed. Ecosphere expects to deliver the second unit within the next 14 days. Ecosphere anticipates that the initial two units will be deployed for a lengthy period of time and that it is hopeful the contract will be expanded to use more units.
Glen Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Mid-Gulf Recovery Services stated, "Working aggressively to respond to the needs of a client in the face of a crisis is the heart of and soul of the Mid-Gulf mind set." After months of evaluating various water treatment technologies and having met with numerous agencies that are part of the process to get our equipment working, Mid-Gulf is pleased to announce the signing of a contract with Ecosphere Technologies to immediately dispatch its mobile Ozonix water treatment units to treat wastewaters being generated on quartering barges. Ecosphere's units will be working in conjunction with other Mid-Gulf equipment we have under a Master Service Contract with BP. Protecting the environment and marine life is our number one priority at Mid-Gulf and together with Ecosphere we will make a difference in the face of this unfortunate disaster," concluded Smith.
