Sonic, Walgreen, Patriot Coal Are Big Movers
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:
Sonic Corp., down 77 cents at $8.52 The drive-through restaurant chain's third quarter results fell short of analyst expectations as beef costs rise. Walgreen Co., down $1.97 at $28.17 The drugstore chain's higher costs related to health care rules and an acquisition hurt third quarter net income. Biovail Corp., up $2.11 at $18.78 The drugmaker is combining with Valeant Pharmaceuticals International in a cash-and-stock deal. Lincare Holdings Inc., up $1.59 at $32.35 The home respiratory therapy company's board has approved the start of quarterly cash dividends of 20 cents. Jefferies Group Inc., up $1.30 at $24.17 The bank's second quarter net income jumped past analyst expectations on strong investment banking revenue. Patriot Coal Corp., down $2.72 at $13.48 The coal company is permanently closing a valuable mine early because of a cave-in that damaged its main conveyor belt. Pioneer Natural Resources, down $4.06 at $66.97 A media report said the company would sell interest in a Texas shale field to India's energy giant Reliance Industries Ltd. Apple Inc., up $3.68 at $273.85 The computer and mobile device maker said it has sold 3 million iPads in less than three months.TheStreet Premium Services
