Foster Grant LightSpecs™ Wins Best Product - General Merchandise Category At NACDS New Product Showcase (Photo: Business Wire)
FGX International, a leading eyewear designer and marketer, announced today its LightSpecs by Foster Grant lighted reading glasses were awarded the Best Product - General Merchandise category, at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Marketplace 2010 Product Showcase. The trade show, held this year in San Diego, California, brings together retailers and suppliers in the chain drug industry representing over $500 billion in annual buying power.
The product, one of the most innovative introduced to the reading glasses category ever, provides a solution to two problems in one product: magnified lenses for near-vision tasks, combined with powerful LED lights concentrated where more light is required, such as reading in bed, on airplanes or dimly-lit restaurants. The patented LightSpecs product features powerful LED lights, optical-quality* lenses in a range of diopters, and easily replaceable batteries that last over 50 hours. LightSpecs, with a suggested retail price of $24.99, will be available at mass retailers in September, and will be supported by over $1 million in measured media to back the product launch in the 4 th quarter of 2010. “LightSpecs are an innovative line extension to the Foster Grant reading glass brand, which is the number one recognized brand in the category,” said Alec Taylor, CEO of FGX International Inc. “We are very excited about this unique new product, and are making a significant investment in media dollars to support the launch of the product.” More than 150 products ranging from health and beauty to seasonal items were on display in the “Product Showcase” of the NACDS Marketplace exhibit floor. There were a total of seven category winners in the showcase, which were evaluated by retail attendees such as Costco, CVS Caremark, Meijer, Shopko, Walgreens and Wegmans.
