Declining Natural Gas Prices Result In Nearly 12% Savings For PECO Gas Customers

Beginning June 1, 2010 PECO’s 486,000 suburban natural gas customers will save as PECO lowers the total monthly charge for natural gas by about 11.9 percent. This reduction is due to a decrease in the price of natural gas used by customers – or the commodity charge. The commodity charge makes up about two-thirds of a total bill and is passed along directly to customers at exactly the price that PECO pays.

A residential heating customer using 80 hundreds of cubic feet (Ccf) of natural gas will save $12.57 per month – reducing their total bill from $105.43 to $92.86. PECO can adjust its natural gas commodity charges quarterly to reflect current wholesale market conditions.

Today (May 28, 2010), the company also completed a filing with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) projecting natural gas commodity charges for December 2010 through November 2011. Based on future wholesale market price projections, PECO filed a request with the PUC for a commodity increase to the June 1 charge of 4.584 cents per Ccf beginning December 1, 2010. Following review and approval by the PUC, this change would result in a 3.9 percent increase – or $3.66 per month – for a residential heating customer using 80 Ccf of natural gas each month.
