Foster Grant Uses QR Code To Promote Contest On Facebook. (Graphic: Business Wire)
Sunlight, camera, action! FGX International (NASDAQ: FGXI), a leading eyewear designer and marketer, announced today the launch of its Isn’t That You Behind Those Foster Grant Videos? contest on Facebook, the company’s first contest on the social networking site. Foster Grant is encouraging fans to showcase their film talents for a chance to win a five-day, four-night trip for two to New York City or Los Angeles, a prize package that includes a wardrobe of Foster Grant sunglasses – one for each day of the trip.
As an innovative tool to promote the contest, Foster Grant is using a QR Code on marketing materials displayed in-store at select retailers where Foster Grant sunglasses are sold. A two-dimensional bar code, the QR Code stores the Facebook contest URL. Consumers with a smart phone, equipped with the proper application, can scan the image of the QR Code, launching the phone’s web browser that takes them directly to Foster Grant’s contest page on Facebook. “The Isn’t That You Behind Those Foster Grant Videos? contest builds upon our rich, pop-culture heritage of ‘stardom.’ Foster Grant has featured Hollywood stars such as Raquel Welch, Vanessa Redgrave, Mia Farrow and others. Now we’re looking for the next generation of stars behind the brand,” said Richard Kornhauser, FGXI Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “We’re excited to engage with our customers in social media and tap into mobile consumers with the QR Code. We’re anxious to see the entries and the creativity behind the videos.” The Facebook contest is a fresh twist on Foster Grant’s well-known “Who’s That Behind Those Foster Grants?” tagline, currently being featured in the company’s national television commercials starring Hollywood icon Raquel Welch. Foster Grant Facebook fans will choose 10 finalists by voting online at www.facebook.com/FosterGrant. A panel from FGX International will choose the grand prize winner, who will receive a prize package that includes a vacation for two to New York City or Los Angeles, airfare, accommodations for a five days and four nights, $500 spending allowance (for the winner) and a wardrobe of Foster Grant sunglasses – one for each day of the trip. Five second place winners will each receive a Flip Video UltraHD 120 camera (approximate retail value: $250 each). The first 50 video submission entrants will each receive a complimentary pair of Foster Grant sunglasses. The contest can be found here: www.facebook.com/FosterGrant. An example of an entry video can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/2vumrj5. Entries must be uploaded by August 31.
