JDSU Enhances Mobile Service Assurance Tools To Help Wireless Operators Manage Massive Mobile Data Growth And Protect Voice Revenue
MILPITAS, Calif., May 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSX: JDU), a leader in Long-Term Evolution (LTE) protocol test and LTE drive test, today introduced new enhancements for the mobile service assurance portfolio recently acquired from Agilent. These enhancements, which simplify and accelerate 24/7 network management and troubleshooting, address voice and data service quality challenges faced by mobile operators as the volume of high-bandwidth traffic continues to grow. JDSU will demonstrate the products at Management World, Nice, May 18-20, Booth 28.
Mobile operators face new network complexities driven by the rapid adoption of smartphones. Users of smartphone devices, which consume on average 30 times more bandwidth than regular mobile phones, are expected to increase to a billion in five years. JDSU's mobile service assurance solutions protect service quality in an intensely competitive wireless service market where reduced churn rates and increased revenue per subscriber are paramount. These solutions extend to voice service quality, still representing the majority of mobile operator revenue, and support the successful deployment of Mobile Soft Switch (MSS) technology that enables the transition to Internet Protocol (IP). The service assurance solution enhancements introduced by JDSU today include:- Managing IP data growth with 100 percent improvement in Gn data monitoring. This is fundamental for performance and scalability, and is available as a simple software upgrade for existing customers.
- Managing the growth of the control plane -- the complicated transactions that set up mobile voice and data calls -- with a cutting-edge 4th generation IP Probe. The new probe enables far-better performance with much less hardware, saves up to 80 percent in operating and capital expenses and reduces power consumption by 37 percent.
- Enhanced Customer Troubleshooting (ECT). ECT allows operators to quickly troubleshoot high-value customers by name and store control plane data for up to a year.
- Obtaining the cell ID from network core monitoring. This capability locates problems for deeper troubleshooting with other tools such as JDSU's Drive Test Systems and Systems Analyzer Real Time (SART), helping to avoid speculative and expensive "truck rolls" to network locations where problems do not exist.
