J&J Recall Slideshow: The Recalls of 2011 & 2010

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Medicine recalls that greatly defined Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) last year continue to pester the company in 2011.

Most recently, J&J's McNeil Consumer Healthcare division said it was recalling certain lots of Tylenol 8 Hour, Tylenol Arthritis Pain and Tylenol upper respiratory products as a precautionary measure. The unit said it was also recalling certain lots of Benadryl, Sudafed and Sinutab products for the same reason. In addition, the division was recalling lots of Rolaids Multi-Symptom Berry Tablets.

It could almost be said that recalls defined consumer giant J&J in 2010, as its McNeil Consumer Healthcare division recalled tens of millions of packages of over-the-counter medicines that year, and the parent faced criminal investigation by the U.S. Justice Department as federal regulators became alarmed.

In turn, as the reputation of one of the world's most trusted names in consumer products became tarnished, shares of the company fell about 4% over the year, under-performing the S&P 500, which rose about 13% over the same time period. OTC drugs weren't the only products recalled by J&J in 2010; products from contact lenses to hip replacement products were also recalled.
