Continental, Dollar Thrifty, BP Are Active Movers
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Monday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:
NYSE: Continental Airlines Inc., up 51 cents to $22.86 The airline agreed to be bought by United Airlines in a $3 billion-plus stock deal that would create the world's largest carrier. Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc., up $6.71 to $50.70 Avis Budget Group said it will trump rival Hertz's $1.17 billion takeover bid for the car rental company. BP PLC, down $1.96 to $50.19 The oil company said it will pay for all cleanup costs from a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that could last at least another week. Gaylord Entertainment Co., down $3.82 to $29.93 The hotel and leisure company withdrew its 2010 outlook, saying flooding in Tennessee will likely affect results for the next two quarters. Rio Tinto PLC, down $2.94 to $47.92 Australia proposed a new 40 percent tax on the booming profits of mining companies, which have benefited from increased demand from China. Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc., up 44 cents to $2.12 The No. 2 tax preparer reached a new credit agreement that will help fund its off-tax season operations and cut 15 percent of its work force. Administaff Inc., up $5.35 to $27.49 The human resources services provider reported a surprise first-quarter profit as it booked lower costs and retained more clients. NASDAQ: Pozen Inc., down 46 cents to $10.39 The Food and Drug Administration approved its osteoarthritis drug Vimovo, which will be marketed by one of the world's largest drugmakers.
