YRC Worldwide, Radient Pharmaceuticals: Early Volume Plays
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Several stocks trading near $5 were moving on above-average volume during Thursday's session.
YRC Worldwide (YRCW) gained 6 cents, or 11.1%, to 63 cents after Chairman and CEO Bill Zollars said he is more confident in YRC Worldwide's ability to generate positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, in the second quarter. Zollars' remarks came as YRC Worldwide said total shipments per workday in the first quarter were approximately 42,700 for YRC National and 33,700 for YRC Regional.. Volume topped 43.3 million shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 39.2 million, according to the Nasdaq. Raser Technologies (RZ) fell by 10 cents, or 8.6%, to $1.06 after the geothermal power development company filed a prospectus under which it may sell shares of its common stock of up to $25 million from time to time. Volume topped 344,000 shares, compared to the three-month average daily volume of 695,000, according to Yahoo! Finance. Radient Pharmaceuticals (RPC) rallied by 39 cents, or 102.7%, to 77 cents after the company said the monoclonal antibody test that it began working on twenty years ago and that the Food and Drug Administration and many other international agencies have approved, may change how people screen for early cancer detection. Volume topped 10.41 million shares, compared to the three-month average daily volume of 561,000. Tongjitang Chinese Medicines (TCM) American Depositary Receipts jumped by 66 cents, or 17.5%, to $4.44 after the company received a merger proposal from Hanmax Investment Limited and Fosun Industrial for $1.125 in cash for each outstanding share, or $4.50 per ADS, of the company. Volume topped 157,200 shares, compared to the three-month average daily volume of 13,500. -- Written by Robert Holmes in Boston.
