Nelco Offers Software Developers New Technology For Wage And Information Reporting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Nelco ( http://partners.nelcosolutions.com/) today announced the launch of its new Wage and Information Reporting Engine (WIRE™), an updated and enhanced version of one of the company's tools for developers of software products with accounting or payroll functions.

For more than 50 years, Nelco has provided businesses with wage and information-reporting forms, technology and services.  Nelco is a subsidiary of Greatland Corporation, one of the country's leading providers of W-2 and 1099 products for business. Nelco has emerged as a leader in related technology and software solutions, focusing on serving software providers and their end-users.

As software developers face a rapidly changing and highly competitive marketplace, their accounting or payroll products are expected to be continually updated to meet customers' needs and preferences, while reflecting the latest changes in compliance and other business requirements.  Nelco provides developers with a suite of products they can use to add new wage and reporting capabilities into their own products – providing increased functionality and features, without the full burden of in-house development time.

Through Nelco's WIRE™, software developers can incorporate the functionality to take raw data from their authored applications and merge it with an extensive library of government-approved federal and state wage and information reporting forms.  Users also have the ability to see the form on screen, edit data, print forms in a variety of formats and save archive copies. WIRE™ shares a common W-2 and 1099 data file format that can be used for federal and state e-filing services, a platform also provided by Nelco.

WIRE™ is made up of three primary components:

  • The WIRE™ Application Programming Interface (API), which controls all core functionality, including data merge, preview and printing. This component takes raw data from an application and merges, formats, and prints it on government-compliant forms.  It also includes support for state scan lines and barcodes, signatures, logos, watermarks and bitmap images. A variety of output formats are supported, including support for PDF and XPS file formats. The WIRE API is written for the .NET programming platform.
  • The Wage and Information Reporting Libraries, which help reduce time spent on compliance research, form development, data placement, data formatting, and form approval and maintenance.  Nelco's Electronic Wage and Information Document library contains over 90 federal and 400 state forms to meet business' programming needs, including: W-2, 1099, 940 and 941 forms, as well as state withholding tax returns and reconciliation forms, and state unemployment insurance and wage reports.  Forms are approved by the appropriate government agency, virtually eliminating the need for developers to submit forms to participating state agencies for data approval.
  • The Edit Control, which can be used to enable an end-user to edit data after it is merged with the form.  A unique locking feature enables software developers to define which fields are editable.

"As the needs and preferences of users shift with today's technology, the features provided through Nelco's Wage and Information Reporting suite will help companies effectively position their software to stand out among the competition," said Bob Nault, Greatland's CEO.  "A full line of options has been developed to meet a wide range of reporting, and we are excited to offer a complete end-to-end solution that will fully integrate with all types of software."

Nelco has an active leadership role with the National Association of Computerized Tax Processors (NACTP) and the Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee (IRPAC), consulting with the IRS and SSA on behalf of software developers and the public to ensure government processing systems are compatible with business technology and relevant information reporting issues are addressed.  They currently partner with approximately 200 software developers across the country who serve over 605,000 end-users.
