XenoPort, AMICAS: Early Volume Plays

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- A handful of stocks trading near $10 were poised to move on above-average volume during Monday's regular session.

XenoPort(XNPT) has added 5.6% at $8.90 after the market recovered from the initial shock of receiving news that the company was unable to secure approval on a drug treatment for restless legs syndrome from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA raised concerns about the drug's possible link to tumors found in rats. The 50-day average daily volume for XenoPort is about 1.6 million.

AMICAS(AMCS) is up 3.4% at $5.60 after filing amended proxy materials with the Securities and Exchange Commission disclosing, among other things, that it has received an unsolicited proposal from Merge Healthcare(MRGE) under which Merge would seek to acquire all of the outstanding shares of AMICAS for $6.05 per share in cash. The 50-day average daily volume for AMICAS is about 489,500.

DepoMed(DEPO) has risen 5.5% to $2.50. The company is currently trying to develop its Gabapentin drug for menopausal hot flashes and neuropathic pain. The 50-day average daily volume for DepoMed is about 464,900.
