YRC Worldwide, Senomyx: Early Volume Plays

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Several stocks trading near $5 were moving on above-average volume during Friday's session.

YRC Worldwide (YRCW) continued to slide, falling 4 cents, or 7%, to 59 cents, bringing its five-day decline to nearly 30%. On Thursday, YRC Worldwide issued $70 million in new unsecured convertible notes in a private placement, with proceeds to be used to cover the company's remaining 2010 note obligations. Volume topped 2.73 million shares in the first few minutes of trading Friday, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 16 million, according to the Nasdaq.

Senomyx (SNMX) dropped by 55 cents, or 17.4%, to $2.62 after the food flavoring company announced a public offering of $20 million of common stock, with 7.1 million shares priced at $2.80. Volume topped 1.13 million shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 54,000.

Hercules Technology Growth Capital (HTGC) slumped by $1.60, or 15.8%, to $8.51 after the finance company said net investment income and total investment assets fell in the fourth quarter from year-ago levels. Volume topped 389,000 shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 186,000.

IntegraMed America (INMD) lost $1.23, or 14.6%, to $7.19 after the healthcare services company priced a 2.5-million common share offering at $7.50 per share. Volume topped 163,000 shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 10,000.
