TORRANCE, Calif. (TheStreet) -- Toyota(TM) plans to halt sales of eight popular models in the U.S. that are involved in the recall for sticking gas pedals. Toyota said it would suspend sales of the Camry, the best-selling car in the U.S., the Rav4, Corolla and five others. Toyota last week recalled about 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. to correct "sticking accelerator pedals." The recall was separate from a previous and ongoing recall of about 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles to fix acceleration problems caused by out of place floor mats. About 1.7 million cars were subject to both recall actions. Because of the sales suspension, Toyota said it expects to stop making vehicles at certain North American production lines for the week of Feb. 1 "to assess and coordinate activities." The plants affected are in Princeton, Ind., Lafayette, Ind., Georgetown, Ky., San Antonio, Texas, and Cambridge, Ontario, and Woodstock, Ontario, in Canada, the Associated Press reports. Toyota, in a statement, said no other North American Toyota vehicle production plants are affected by the decision. Toyota sold more than 34,000 Camrys in December. It has 3.4% of the U.S. market and sales rose 38% from a year earlier, according to AP. Toyota shares fell 4.3% in trading in Japan. -- Reported by Joseph Woelfel in New York.
