Gold Up as Dollar Slips

Mining stocks, a more leveraged way to invest in gold, were mixed. Barrick Gold(ABX) and Newmont Mining(NEM) were flat at $37.01 and $45.06, respectively. Shares of GoldCorp(GG) were rising 0.32% to $37.05. The stock was recently upgraded to buy from hold at TD Newcrest.

New Gold(NGD) was rising 2.38% to $4.36 after the company reported better than expected 2009 and 2010 gold production guidance. Iamgold(IAG) was flat at $14.60 even though the company reported a 17% increase in gold reserves year over year. Shares of Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold(FCX) were rising 1.85% to $75.60. This slight rally comes after last week's selloff on news that China will continue to tighten credit and curb spending.

The SPDR Gold Shares(GLD) was rising 0.37% to $107.57.
