NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Here are the top stock market headlines for the morning of Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009.
Thursday's Early Headlines
- Hershey Weighs Decision on Cadbury Bid -- Hershey(HSY) and the trust that controls it are close to making a final decision on whether to bid for U.K. candy maker Cadbury(CBY), the Wall Street Journal reports. Kraft(KFT) has an existing bid in for Cadbry of about $16.5 billion.
- GE Gets $1.4 Billion Contract for Wind Turbines -- General Electric (GE) received a $1.4 billion contract to provide wind turbines and services for a planned wind farm in Oregon. GE will supply 338 turbines of 2.5 megawatts each for the $2 billion Shepherds Flat project, which when completed could be the largest wind facility in the world.
- Costco Earnings Meet Estimates, Sales Rise -- Costco(COST), the wholesale club retailer, reported first-quarter earnings flat, but in line with estimates as comparable-store sales rose 3%. Costco earned $266 million, or 60 cents a share, in its fiscal first quarter on total revenue, including membership fees, of $17.3 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings of 60 cents a share on revenue of $17.31 billion.
- Apple to use Lala to Revamp iTunes -- Apple(AAPL) plans to overhaul its iTunes service, using newly acquired Lala.com as the key component of the move, the Wall Street Journal says. As part of the move, Lala executives have been given key positions helping shape strategy for the iTunes Store, and some iTunes executives would report to them.
