Stocks Pare Losses, Finish Down
D.R. Horton(DHI), the biggest decliner on the S&P, narrowed its loss in the fourth quarter, but noted that "market conditions in the homebuilding industry are still challenging." The homebuilder lost 73 cents a share, though the consensus centered on a loss of 30 cents a share. Shares slumped over 15%.
Elsewhere, The Wall Street Journal reports that some Goldman Sachs(GS) shareholders are calling on the firm to pass along more earnings to investors by reducing the firm's bonus pool. Comcast's(CMCSA) bid for NBC Universal hit a snag, with the Financial Times reporting that GE and Vivendi are at least $1 billion apart in their valuation of the French concern's stake.
