Citigroup, E*Trade: Early Volume Plays

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Several stocks trading under $5 were poised to move on above-average volume during Thursday's session.

Netlist (NLST Quote) jumped by 22 cents, or 4.6%, to $5.05 in the premarket session extending gains stemming from the debut of the company's HyperCloud product at the Supercomputing trade show in Portland, Ore. The 50-day average daily volume for is 1,397,791, according to the Nasdaq.

Citigroup (C Quote) fell by 3 cents, or 0.7%, to $4.26 in the premarket session after the New York Post ran a story suggesting the company has been talking with private equity groups about its auto loan unit, CitiFinancial Auto. The three-month average daily volume for Citigroup is 625,893,000, according to Yahoo! Finance.

E*Trade Financial (ETFC Quote) dropped by 2 cents, or 1.2%, to $1.67 in the premarket session a day after the rumors surfaced that the company may be a takeover target. The 50-day average daily volume for is 99,821,149, according to the Nasdaq.

Ambac Financial Group (ABK Quote) dropped by 5 cents, or 4.5%, to 97 cents in the premarket session a day after the company released information regarding its capital requirements . The three-month average daily volume for is 25,153,600, according to Yahoo! Finance.

Hot Topic (HOTT Quote) fell by 82 cents, or 12.3%, to $5.85 in the premarket session a day after the company issued a disappointing outlook . The 50-day average daily volume for is 1,088,934, according to the Nasdaq.
