Merck & Co., up 71 cents at $33.81 Investors brushed off a rival company's study that showed its cholesterol drug is potentially more effective than Merck's Zetia. Citigroup Inc., up 13 cents at $4.18 The company said it would sell a majority stake in a Japanese unit for $1 billion in cash in a step to shed noncore assets. Lowe's Cos., down 11 cents at $21.74 The home-improvement retailer's profit fell 30 percent as customers continued to delay large purchases amid a weak economy. Illinois Tool Works Inc., up $2.04 at $51.02 The industrial products maker maintained its guidance for fourth-quarter earnings from continuing operations. Landry's Restaurants Inc., up $2.92 at $19.10 A shareholder announced plans to oppose the $1.2 billion private takeover of the restaurant chain by its CEO. NASDAQ: Westport Innovations Inc., up $1.12 at $12.23 The company, whose equipment enables cars to run on natural gas, announced a long-term contract with Swedish car and truck maker Volvo.
