Pa. Horticultural Society Gets $300K Green Grant

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is getting a $300,000 federal grant to expand its urban food growing program, City Harvest, across Philadelphia over the next three years.

The money will help create a new initiative to get more local gardeners to grow produce that benefits local consumers.

The Agriculture Department grant will be matched by public and private donations.

The initiative will start this month. It fits in with a Philadelphia plan for bringing local food within 10 minutes of most city residents and creating an additional 86 fresh food outlets by 2015.
