Harris Acquires Patriot Technologies

WASHINGTON (AP) — Harris Corp., which makes radios and communication devices for military and commercial customers, said Monday it acquired privately held Patriot Technologies Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

Harris said the aim of the buyout is to increase its presence in the $3.4 billion federal government health care information technology market.

Patriot, which has about 100 employees, has provided services to the Department of Veterans Affairs including health care IT, imaging and enterprise software solutions. Patriot is based in King of Prussia, Pa.

The company will become part of Harris' Healthcare Solutions business unit, led by Jim Traficant, vice president.

Shares of Harris, based in Melbourne, Fla., rose 61 cents to $45.04 in midday trading.
