Minn.'s Biggest Stimulus Road Project Moves Ahead

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Transportation officials are closing more roads this week to accommodate work on Minnesota's biggest stimulus-funded road project.

The extension of Highway 610 from Brooklyn Park to Maple Grove is expected to be done by July 2011. The $48 million project is getting $27 million from the federal economic recovery package.

Starting this week, officials will detour traffic around portions of Hemlock Lane and Revere Lane in Maple Grove while crews build bridges over the new highway. The two streets will remain closed through next June.

The project will extend Highway 610 almost three miles from Highway 169 in Brooklyn Park to County Road 81 in Maple Grove. The state currently has no plans to build the final leg connecting Highway 610 with Interstate 94.
