Wolf Farms Claims Classic Cupping Competition

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) — Wolf Farms has won the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival's Classic Cupping Competition.

The four-acre coffee farm in Honaunau on the Big Island topped 60 other coffee farms to claim the top prize Thursday. Hawaiian King Coffee was second and Healani Farms was third.

Farmers submitted 50 pounds of this year's harvest, from which judges sampled and scored the brew's fragrance, aroma, taste, nose, aftertaste and body.

Mark Wolf owns and operates Wolf Farms with wife Denise. He says he's pleased to win the competition after receiving an honorable mention last year.

After 30 years of experience, the Wolfs say they have yet to identify the secret to great coffee.

Mark Wolf says he does all the work himself, and he didn't do anything different this year.
