Green Mountain Coffee Stops Perking

WATERBURY, VT. (TheStreet) -- Green Mountain Coffee Roasters(GMCR Quote) is going bad.

Shares of Green Mountain, the specialty coffee maker, are tumbling 10.3% to $68.02 after the company posted disappointing first-quarter guidance.

On Wednesday, Green Mountain announced that its profit doubled in the fourth quarter, but also said its first-quarter earnings will decline.

It expects to earn between 11 cents and 15 cents a share, down from 37 cents in the first quarter last year.

But management also raised its 2010 outlook in the range of $1.75 to $1.85 per share, up from a prior guidance of $1.70 to $1.80.

During the fourth quarter, the company earned $14.4 million, or 34 cents per share, compared with $7.1 million, or 18 cents per share, a year earlier. Analysts expected a profit of 33 cents.

Revenue soared 65% to $222.2 million from $134.8 million.
