Comcast, NBCU Venture Picks Chief: Report
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Comcast(CMCSA Quote) and General Electric (GE Quote) have agreed to put NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker in charge of their proposed joint venture, a report says.
Under a deal being discussed, Comcast's cable networks would be merged with NBC Universal's TV networks, movie studio and local TV stations. The deal took a step closer to completion earlier this week as GE and Comcast reportedly agreed to value NBC Universal at around $30 billion. Reuters, citing sources, reports Zucker will lead the new venture, with no clauses for him to leave after a specific period. There's been a lot of speculation about who would head the new company, Reuters notes, especially since Peter Chernin -- former president of News Corp. (NWS Quote) -- has been advising Comcast. Sources told Reuters that Zucker would serve as the venture's CEO, but no decisions had been made on a role for Chernin. Discussions about what the new board would look like are ongoing, the sources said. Comcast declined comment, Reuters says, while NBC, a subsidiary of GE, didn't return calls seeking comment. -- Reported by Joseph Woelfel in New York .
