NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Macy's (M Quote) and Applied Materials (AMAT Quote) will highlight a relatively quiet session Wednesday, as both will report quarterly earnings during a day when bond markets will be closed.
In observance of the Veteran's Day holiday, the bond market will be closed Wednesday. The stock and commodities markets, though, will remain open. In the absence of any economic releases, the equity market will likely take its cue from the day's slate of earnings releases. Macy's is on tap to report third-quarter earnings before the start of trading Wednesday, with analysts expecting a loss of 7 cents a share on sales of $5.23 billion. That would compare to a year-ago loss of 8 cents a share on sales of $5.49 billion. Retail earnings have been under the microscope this week, with investors looking for an indication on the health of the consumer. In addition, UGI Corp. (UGI Quote), Zoll Medical (ZOLL Quote) and Flower Foods (FLO Quote) will also post quarterly numbers before the start of trading Wednesday. Applied Materials, meanwhile, will release its report after the closing bell, with consensus estimates calling for a profit of 3 cents a share on revenue of $1.31 billion, according to Thomson Reuters. Joining Applied Materials in reporting earnings after Wednesday's session are Advance Auto Parts (AAP Quote), Computer Sciences (CSC Quote) and Green Mountain Coffee (GMCR Quote). -- Written by Robert Holmes in New York.
