W.Va. Groups Back Rahall On Health Vote

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia Democrats, labor unions and other groups are planning to thank U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall in person for his vote on a sweeping health care measure.

The state AFL-CIO, West Virginia Education Association and others will meet with the 3rd District Democrat in Charleston on Tuesday.

Rahall was one of 219 Democrats who voted to extend health coverage to almost all Americans and impose new restrictions on the insurance industry. Thirty-nine Democrats voted against the measure.

Along with Republicans, those Democrats argue the plan is too costly for taxpayers.

U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan also supported the measure. U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito voted against it.

The legislation is now with the U.S. Senate.
