eOn, VeriChip: Late Day Volume Plays

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Several small-cap stocks were moving on above-average volume during Monday's session.

eOn Communications (EONC Quote) surged by $1.60, or 97%, to $3.25 after the telecom company swung to a fiscal fourth-quarter profit of $111,000, or 4 cents a share, from a year-ago loss of $338,000, or 12 cents a share. Revenue surged 217% from a year ago to $5.09 million. Volume topped 1.83 million shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 4,591, according to the Nasdaq.

Presstek (PRST Quote) jumped by 41 cents, or 22.9%, to $2.20 even after the company posted an adjusted third-quarter loss of 8 cents a share, a penny worse than the Thomson Reuters average estimate. Revenue fell 32% from a year ago to $33 million, although that was better than the consensus target of $32.4 million. Volume topped 203,000 shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 64,000, according to the Nasdaq.

VeriChip (CHIP Quote) rose by 28 cents, or 19.1%, to $1.75 on optimism following the Saturday passage of the House of Representatives' health care reform bill. Volume topped 1.32 million shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 1.61 million, according to the Nasdaq.

TravelCenters of America (TA Quote) dropped by 99 cents, or 18.8%, to $4.27 after the company posted a third-quarter net loss of 73 cents a share, swinging from a year-ago profit of $1.08 a share. Revenue was nearly cut in half from the year-ago period to $1.28 billion. Volume topped 715,000 shares, compared to the three-month average daily volume of 363,000, according to Yahoo! Finance.

RadNet (RDNT Quote) plummeted by 55 cents, or 20.3%, to $2.16 after the company recorded a third-quarter adjusted loss of a penny a share on revenue of $133.5 million, both below the Thomson Reuters average estimate. Volume topped 861,000 shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 148,000, according to the Nasdaq.

Versar (VSR Quote) fell by 59 cents, or 14.4%, to $3.51 after the company posted a third-quarter profit of $237,000, or 3 cents a share, narrowing from a profit of 6 cents a share in the year-ago quarter. Volume topped 158,000 shares, compared to the three-month average daily volume of 47,000, according to the Yahoo! Finance.
