Geneva-based GoldVish set a Guinness World Record with its Le Million, a $1 million phone covered with 120 carats of diamonds. If you own a Bedazzler, this might be your dream accessory.
Alongside its a high-profile Droid launch with Verizon Communications(VZ) and Google(NASDAQ), Motorola recently unveiled the Aura Diamond Edition, a glittery creature with 18-carat gold and 34 diamonds around the phone's display. It also has the usual phone features, such as Bluetooth, a music player and a two-megapixel camera. In June, a less opulent variation, the Aura Celestial Edition, debuted to commemorate the fact that a Motorola radio transponder sent earth-bound communications from the Apollo 11 moon landing. The Auras feature a liquid-crystal display capable of 16 million colors on a round, moon-shaped screen. It boasts 700 individual components, including Swiss-made ball bearings. The Celestial version sells for $2,400, while the Diamond variation will set you back $6,000. Vertu, a London-based company that describes itself as "the pioneer and leading manufacturer of handcrafted mobile phones for the luxury market" introduced the Ascent Ti Carbon Fibre model last summer. The company, a subsidiary of Nokia(NOK), is selling the race-car themed phone for almost $10,000. According to the company's marketing materials, the handcrafted phone, "has been repeatedly tested to ensure the optimum amount of fibers and resin, and processed together to achieve a flawless uniform look on both the flat and curved parts." Now if we could only figure out how that justifies the steep price tag. -- Reported by Joe Mont in Boston Follow TheStreet.com on Twitter and become a fan on Facebook.TheStreet Premium Services
