Weyerhaeuser To Build Wood Pulp Facility In Poland

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) — Weyerhaeuser Co., a major U.S. timber and lumber supplier, said Friday it will build a pulp processing plant in Poland to supply Procter & Gamble's operations in eastern and western Europe.

Weyerhaeuser, which made the announcement shortly before releasing its third-quarter earnings, said the facility's cost and capacity had yet to be finalized.

The company won a competitive tender process to buy 100,000 square meters of land in the port city of Gdansk and expects to close on the purchase this year.

It will break ground on the 17,000 square-meter facility, which will use cellulose fibers produced at one of the company's southern U.S. mills, next year and employ at least 45 people when becomes operational in 2012.

Procter & Gamble will be the facility's primary customer, Weyerhaeuser said.

Shares of Weyerhaeuser fell 58 cents to $36.94 in midday trading.
