NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Chevron (CVX Quote) will be the highlight of Friday's earnings schedule, as the week and the month of October come to an end.
Chevron is expected to post a third-quarter profit of $1.39 a share on revenue of $48.96 billion, according to a poll of analysts by Thomson Reuters. Both figures would be down sharply from year-ago levels, which would make Chevron's results similar to those of rivals Exxon Mobil (XOM Quote) and ConocoPhillips (COP Quote). In addition to Chevron, other companies reporting earnings Friday include Alcatel-Lucent (ALU Quote), Coventry Health Care (CVH Quote), Sony (SNE Quote), Duke Energy (DUK Quote), YRC Worldwide (YRCW Quote) and NYSE Euronext (NYX Quote) Friday's slate of economic reports is also very busy, kicking off at 8:30 a.m. EDT with the September reading on personal income and spending. Economists polled by Reuters expect that income was flat in September from the month prior, while spending should decline by 0.5% after a 1.3% rise in September. At 9:45 a.m. EDT, the October reading on the Chicago Purchasing Managers' index will be released, with economists looking for a small increase to 48.7 from 46.1 in September. Ten minutes later, the University of Michigan will released its revised October reading on consumer sentiment, which should increase to 70 from the initial reading of 69.4 but down from 73.5 in September. -- Written by Robert Holmes in New York.
