2 Nebraska Districts Getting 'smart Grid' Funding

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Two Nebraska electrical districts will be sharing about $2.3 million in federal stimulus dollars that are aimed at digitizing power systems.

A news release from the office of U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., says about $1.9 million in "smart grid" funding is going to Cuming County Public Power District in West Point. The money will go toward communications infrastructure and control software.

The Stanton County Public Power District will get $397,000 to add to its meter network and install 2,400 more "smart meters," as well as software, hardware and data collections systems.

The federal government is dividing $3.4 billion among 100 projects to help modernize the U.S. power grid.
