GameStop Hires 15,000 Holiday Helpers

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- GameStop(GME Quote) announced today that it is ramping up for the holidays by adding 15,000 seasonal workers, joining the ranks of the retailers who are refusing to declare defeat this holiday season.

The retailer said the new hires will increase the company's headcount by about 46% and are consistent with last year's hiring plans.

Despite a tepid holiday outlook by research firms of a gain or decrease of 1%, some retailers are still boosting their holiday efforts in order to remain competitive.

Best Buy announced last month that it will hire more workers for the holidays, though it didn't specify how many, while Toys 'R' Us said it is adding 35,000 temporary workers.
