NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- BP (BP Quote) and Visa (V Quote) are among the handful of companies slated to report quarterly results on Tuesday.
Before the market opens, BP is expected to post a profit of $1.04 a share, which would be a sharp drop from the year-ago profit of $2.84 a share, on revenue of $63.7 billion, according to a poll of analysts by Thomson Reuters. Several other companies will join BP in reporting their numbers before Tuesday's opening bell, including FirstEnergy (FE Quote), FPL Group (FPL Quote), Johnson Controls (JCI Quote), U.S. Steel (X Quote) and Valero (VLO Quote) Visa is scheduled to report its quarterly results after the closing bell. Analysts expect Visa to notch a profit of 72 cents a share, up from 58 cents a share in the year-ago quarter, on revenue of $1.78 billion. Among other companies set to post earnings late Tuesday are ACE Limited (ACE Quote), Apollo Group (APOL Quote), E*Trade Financial (ETFC Quote), McKesson (MCK Quote) and Norfolk Southern (NSC Quote). Tuesday's economic calendar is relatively light, with only the August read on the Standar & Poor's/Case-Shiller home price index and the October reading of the Conference Board's consumer confidence index scheduled.
