NEW YORK (AP) — Lazard Ltd. said Tuesday it won't make a decision on the successor to its late CEO Bruce Wasserstein at next week's board meeting.

"It is our responsibility to take a measured and thoughtful, yet expeditious approach in determining the position or positions of chairman and chief executive officer of Lazard," the board said in a statement. It said no decision or announcement about a new CEO would be made at next Tuesday's regularly scheduled board meeting.

Wasserstein, a prominent Wall Street deal maker, passed away last week. The 61-year-old was the driving force behind Lazard, a top mergers and acquisitions advisory firm in New York.

Steven J. Golub, 63, the company's vice chairman, has been serving as interim CEO.
