NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- The markets retreated Tuesday on disappointing housing data.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 50.71, or 0.50%, to 10,041.48, while the S&P 500 dropped 6.85, or 0.62%, to 1,091.06. The Nasdaq fell 12.85, or 0.59%, to 2,163.47. Despite strong earnings from Apple(AAPL Quote) and Texas Instruments(TXN Quote), the market slid on housing permit and new home construction numbers that fell short of expectations.
