Midday Movers: Pump Up the Volume

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Several small-cap stocks were moving on above-average volume during Tuesday's session.

DRI Corp. (TBUS Quote) jumped by 37 cents, or 16.2%, to $2.65 after the company announced that its Mobitec subsidiary in Sweden secured an order of strategic significance from a transit system operator in Singapore for the company's electronic destination sign systems. Volume topped 1 million shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 79,000, according to the Nasdaq.

Adventrx Pharmaceuticals (ANX Quote) tacked on two cents, or 18.9%, to 14 cents after the company said it bolstered its cash position after the closing of an equity offering earlier this month that provided approximately $6 million in proceeds. A majority of the proceeds will fund its operations during the Food and Drug Administration review period of its drug candidate ANX-530 submission, which should come by the end of the year. Volume topped 8 million shares, compared to the three-month average daily volume of 3.1 million, according to Yahoo! Finance.

Sunrise Senior Living (SRZ Quote) climbed by 36 cents, or 6.8%, to $5.67 after the company late Monday said it amended a credit agreement with its bank group, extending the maturity date of its credit facility to Dec. 2, 2010. Volume topped 1.8 million shares, compared to the three-month average daily volume of 2 million, according to Yahoo! Finance.

Zhone Technologies (ZHNE Quote) jumped by 6 cents, or 10.1%, to 69 cents ahead of the company's third-quarter earnings release, expected after the closer of trading Tuesday. Volume topped 2.4 million shares, compared to the three-month average daily volume of 289,000, according to Yahoo! Finance.

China Grentech (GRRF Quote) surged by 55 cents, or 11.5%, to $5.35 amid relative strength in Chinese equipment communication providers. Volume topped 1.6 million shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of 348,000, according to the Nasdaq.

Tennessee Commerce Bancorp (TNCC Quote) rallied by $1.34, or 33.4%, to $5.35 after the company late Monday reported third-quarter net income of $1.2 million, or 25 cents a share, compared to expectations for a loss of 34 cents a share, according to Thomson Reuters. The bank said the third-quarter profitability was due to gain on loan sales, margin improvement and a continuing reduction in loan losses. Volume topped 64,000 shares, compared to the 50-day average daily volume of only 2,200, according to the Nasdaq.
