ORLANDO, Fla. (TheStreet) -- Since 2004, German-based conglomerate Siemens(SI Quote) has steadily climbed its way near the top of the North American wind-turbine heap, becoming the region's third largest supplier.

As proof, the company detailed its collage of North American wind turbine orders over the past month, totaling 565 megawatts of capacity and $900 million.

According to a press release issued this morning, the orders cut across a wide swath in Canada and the U.S. In Ontario, 44 units of 2.3 megawatt wind turbines were ordered for Kruger Energy's Chatham wind farm, while another 22 units were set for the Brookfield Renewable Power Fund-owned Gosfield wind farm.

In Oklahoma, another 66 turbines will go to Competitive Power Ventures, which are in turn meant for the Keenan II site. Duke Energy(DUK Quote), too, will take another 44 turbines for its Wyoming-based Top of the World project, while Siemens will provide another 26 units for Canon Power Group's Windy Flats Extension site in Washington. In California, Siemens will supply Pattern Energy with 44 turbines to be used at the state's Hatchet Ridge project.

In all, Siemens estimates that this is enough capacity to power some 170,000 homes.

"These orders prove that the wind industry's fundamentals are still strong even in times of an economic downturn," Siemens Energy CEO Wolfgang Dehen said. "The continuing support for renewable energy from the administrations in the U.S. and Canada is having a positive effect on wind project development."
