National Semiconductor CEO Halla To Step Down

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — National Semiconductor Corp. said Friday that Chief Executive Brian Halla will retire as of Nov. 30 and be replaced by Chief Operating Officer Donald Macleod, 61.

Halla will remain executive chairman, while Macleod will become CEO and maintain his title as president. Halla plans to retire from the board at the end of the 2010 fiscal year on May 30.

Last month, the analog chip specialist reported a 63 percent drop in first-quarter net income to $29.8 million, or 13 cents per share.

Revenue fell 32 percent to $314.4 million from $465.6 million.

Shares rose 52 cents, or 3.8 percent, to close at $14.20 before the announcement.
