LOS ANGELES (AP) — Trendy apparel retailer American Apparel Inc. said Thursday sales at stores open at least a year fell 15 percent in September.

Sales at stores open at least a year are a key indicator of retailer performance because they measure growth at existing stores rather than newly opened ones.

The Los Angeles-based company said the results included 201 stores in September.

Sales at stores open at least a year declined 16 percent in the third quarter ended Sept. 30.

At the end of the month, the company operated more than 275 stores worldwide.
