DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — NCR Corp. said Wednesday that its chief financial officer is resigning to take a new position with business telephone and Internet communications provider Avaya Inc.

Anthony Massetti will resign on Oct. 23, a day after the company reports third-quarter earnings. Robert Fishman, corporate controller, will step in as interim CFO while NCR searches for a replacement.

Fishman had been interim CFO at NCR from May 2007 to January 2008 when the company spun off Teradata, its data warehousing business. He joined NCR in 1993 and held various senior positions in finance.

NCR manufactures machines used for electronic transactions, such as ATMs and self-service kiosks. Shares of the Duluth, Ga., company were down 13 cents to $13.53 on Wednesday.

Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Avaya said Massetti will become CFO, effective Oct. 26.

Avaya is in the process of purchasing Nortel's enterprise division for $900 million. The enterprise unit supplies landline phone systems and other communications equipment to businesses and large organizations around the world.

Avaya was spun off by Lucent Technologies in 2000 with 34,000 workers. It has slimmed down through repeated restructurings and now has about 18,000 employees. The company was publicly traded until two private equity groups bought it in 2007 for $8.2 billion.
